There’s no shortage of Christmas cheer at Buckland Abbey this year, so bring the family along to this superb National Trust property. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed wintery walk, some unique Christmas gifts or a chance to meet Santa Claus himself, you’ll be delighted you made the journey.
Don’t miss the majestic decorations in the Great Barn, where local community groups are working alongside the Buckland team to put together a gorgeous display inspired by the traditional carol The First Nowell. Breathtaking floral displays will surround the always impressive Christmas tree, with doors open until 8pm so that when you leave the barn you can enjoy another fantastic light show in the skies above.
There’s also a vast array of handicrafts, preserves and plenty of bargains to be found in the Buckland shop – perfect for anyone needing inspiration for stocking fillers and original gift ideas. Proceeds contribute to the upkeep of the property. Stop in for a tasty bowl of soup in the Ox Yard restaurant – ideal for warming you up on a chilly day – and you can also work off the seasonal indulgences by exploring the beautiful Buckland gardens or joining a guided tour of the Abbey.
Last but by no means least, Santa will be making his appearance at Buckland Abbey between 19th and 23rd December. He’s a busy man at this time of year, understandably, but he can always find a few moments to hear what your children are hoping to find under the tree and tell a few entertaining Christmas stories too. He’ll be in the Great Hall, and if you’d like to meet him you’ll need to book ahead.
More merry-making activities are sure to be announced as Buckland Abbey prepares to welcome Christmas, so be sure to stop by if you’re staying in the area.
