Woodlands Park is one of the most desirable Dream Lodge holiday parks, surrounded by forest and a patchwork of fields. It’s also perfectly located for exploring some of England’s finest landscapes, among which rest two officially recognised Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This vast area, spanning over 1400 square kilometres, offers a superb diversity of landscapes from wooded hills to patchworked farmland, sandstone outcrops to meadows full of beautiful wildflowers. High Weald has a number of incredible nature reserves within it that families will love exploring at leisure, as well as many other attractions ranging from farmers’ markets to castles and stately homes, outdoor sculpture parks to vineyards. An extensive network of walking trails suits everyone from keen ramblers looking for a challenging hike to families with small children wanting to immerse themselves in nature for a short time. Cyclists and dog-walkers are also well-served, with many routes that pass through such delightful scenery that you’ll find yourselves pausing every few minutes to take it all in. Exploring the charms of the High Weald is incredibly easy when you use Woodlands Park as your base. (Distance from park: 14 miles)
The Kent Downs arcs southwards from the Surrey border to the iconic White Cliffs of Dover, a swathe of chalk in the distinctive shape of an eyelid. Well-connected, especially to the capital, the Kent Downs is nevertheless large enough to sustain high numbers of visitors without feeling too crowded, and there are plenty of great attractions to keep everyone entertained. Take a tour of one of the area’s flourishing new vineyards; learn about the fascinating maritime history of Dover and Folkestone in a local museum; walk the dog through landscape often referred to as the ‘Garden of England,’ or enjoy a perfect afternoon in a charming country pub. Families are especially well-served, with many great walks suited to little legs, orchards to explore, idyllic picnic sites, and woods that are just made for building dens or hunting for fictitious bears.
