As well as the usual wide variety of vendors and stallholders, this year’s market will also be joined by The Cube, an all-embracing events space showcasing a whole range of entertainment, including live performances, workshops and craft activities. These events have already been running in the town since October and will continue into the festive period to coincide with the market’s arrival in mid-December.
But that’s not the only addition to this year’s proceedings. On December 17th, Romford’s first ever Lantern Parade will take place, and it promises to be some spectacle. Children are being invited to help make the paper lanterns ahead of the event and are also being encouraged to dress up in a suitably Christmas-ey theme – think Frosty, Princess Elsa and other popular characters. You get the picture!
And there’s more. What better way to keep the cold at bay than by embracing your inner Torvill and Dean? Open daily, the ice rink at the Romford Christmas market has become a firm favourite with kids and adults alike and this year is expected to be no different. Watch from the sidelines as your little ones try to stay on their feet, or don some skates yourself to show them that there’s plenty of life in the old dog yet!
As for victuals, you’ll be spoilt for choice, with a huge array of festive street food on offer, including roasted chestnuts, German sausages and chocolates. You can even pick up some early Christmas treats to keep in the fridge or pantry at home.
If that’s not enough, there’s still tentative talk of a Fashion Show being put on by the market traders, although organisers are remaining tight lipped about whether those plans are going ahead. Let’s hope so, as it will only add more colour and character to what is already one of the best Christmas markets in Essex.
